Nagpur the 'Orange City' is also called as the 'Tiger Capital' or Tiger gateway of India' as it connects six Tiger Reserves of India to the world. Nagpur is precisely located at the centre of the country with the Zero Mile Marker indicating the Geographical centre of India. Nagpur is well connected with all parts of the country with road, rail and air. During the British regime from 1900, the city was the capital of the central province comprising present-day Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and parts of Maharashtra. Post-independence it was annexed to the State of Maharashtra and was identified as the State's second capital, the winter capital of Maharashtra. Deekshabhoomi located in Nagpur is regarded as a sacred place, a Prernabhoomi (inspiring land) of social revolution and the first pilgrimage centre of Ambedkarite Buddhism in India. Nagpur is also a Head Quarter of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Nagpur is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. It is a major commercial hub, home to some of the famous pharmaceutical firms like Baidyanath & Vicco, snacks manufacturer Haldiram, icecream maker Dinshaw as the list goes on.
NAGPUR VETERINARY COLLEGE, MAFSU, NAGPUR
Nagpur Veterinary College (NVC), Nagpur was established on 1st July 1958. It is a constituent college of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur. The college offers undergraduate teaching programs (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) and postgraduate degrees (M.V.Sc.) in 18 disciplines, along with doctoral programs in 12 disciplines of veterinary and animal sciences.

Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) has six constituent Veterinary Colleges located at Nagpur, Mumbai, Shirwal, Parbhani, Udgir & Akola. Apart from these, the university has two Dairy Technology Colleges located at Pusad and Udgir, and two Fishery Science Colleges situated at Nagpur and Udgir. The Wildlife Research & Training Centre, established in 2015 at Gorewada, Nagpur, focuses on wildlife health management and research. This wide institutional network strengthens MAFSU’s contributions to veterinary, fisheries, dairy, and wildlife sciences across Maharashtra.

MAFSU also operates five breeding farms across Maharashtra, aimed at preserving and improving local germplasm. These breeding farms play a vital role in conservation programs, supporting state initiatives in sustainable livestock management. In addition to academic institutions, the university manages three Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) located at Nagpur, Sangli, and Thane. These KVKs are dedicated to technology transfer, farmer education, and the promotion of modern animal husbandry practices. The university thus contributes to education, research, and rural development statewide.
