The International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) Nagpur is one of the prominent veterinary student organizations in India, functioning through IVSA India at Nagpur Veterinary College. It is a student-led platform that aims to provide veterinary students with opportunities beyond conventional academics by promoting leadership, scientific learning, global networking, and professional development. IVSA Nagpur works toward connecting students with the international veterinary community while encouraging them to actively participate in activities related to veterinary science, public health, animal welfare, research, and One Health initiatives. The organization plays an important role in shaping veterinary students into socially responsible and globally aware professionals.
IVSA Nagpur regularly organizes academic events such as seminars, workshops, conferences, clinical discussions, scientific competitions, and guest lectures by veterinarians, researchers, and industry experts. These activities help students gain practical exposure and enhance their understanding of modern veterinary concepts including One Health, zoonotic diseases, public health, wildlife conservation, antimicrobial resistance, livestock management, and food safety. The organization encourages students to develop scientific temperament and improve their communication, presentation, and organizational skills through active participation in such events.
One of the major strengths of IVSA Nagpur is its focus on international exposure and networking. Through IVSA’s global platform, students get opportunities to interact with veterinary students and professionals from different countries. Students working in various executive and organizing positions such as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and committee coordinators gain firsthand experience in event management, teamwork, sponsorship handling, public relations, and administration. IVSA Nagpur has also been associated with several impactful student initiatives and awareness campaigns related to animal welfare and public health. It actively promotes the One Health concept, which recognizes the close relationship between human health, animal health, and environmental sustainability. Through educational programs and outreach activities, the organization spreads awareness regarding zoonotic diseases, hygiene, responsible animal care, and environmental conservation.
A landmark achievement associated with IVSA Nagpur and IVSA India was the organization of India’s first National Undergraduate Veterinary Symposium at Nagpur Veterinary College under the theme “Beyond Borders, Beyond Species: The One Health Odyssey.” The symposium brought together veterinary students, scientists, academicians, and professionals from across the country and provided a platform for scientific discussions, research presentations, competitions, and collaborative learning. The event highlighted the growing importance of veterinary students in advancing the One Health approach and demonstrated the organizational capabilities and vision of IVSA Nagpur.
IVSA India itself was founded in 2013 at Nagpur Veterinary College, which reflects Nagpur’s significant contribution to the growth of the veterinary student movement in India. Over the years, IVSA Nagpur has earned recognition for its active student participation, innovative initiatives, academic contributions, and commitment toward developing globally competent veterinary professionals. The organization continues to inspire veterinary students by creating opportunities for learning, collaboration, and leadership at both national and international levels.
